We believe constructive dialogue works best when it is grounded in clarity, respect, and realism.
From the outset, we have acknowledged that development is moving forward and that affordable housing is an important and necessary part of Morris Township’s future. We are not seeking to undo that reality. Our focus has always been on ensuring that what is built reflects common-sense planning and best practices—the kinds of measures that protect public safety, environmental resources, and long-term community well-being.
The principles we have raised are not novel, extreme, or obstructive. They are the types of safeguards and standards that are routinely incorporated into well-designed projects and, in many cases, are expected from the start. We believe addressing them strengthens the project rather than undermines it.
At the same time, meaningful dialogue requires mutual respect. In past meetings, some residents felt their concerns were dismissed rather than engaged. We see an opportunity now to move forward differently—by opening lines of communication that are candid, professional, and rooted in good faith.
As President John F. Kennedy famously said:
“Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.”
That sentiment captures our position well. We are prepared to engage respectfully and constructively. We are equally clear that the substance of the issues raised matters, and that thoughtful planning should not be compromised simply for expedience.
We remain committed to responsible engagement, to principled dialogue, and to outcomes that reflect the level of care this community—and future residents—deserve.
